Ok, well, there's not much to consider. Crazy would not have survived. Or maybe she would have, but she would have been very grumpy all the time.
See, Crazy needs electricity to be happy. No, really. It's true. She doesn't need television or radio or even computer/internet. She just needs fucking light and the ability to cook things on her stupid electric stove. (Note to self: must have gas stove when buy own home so can survive power outages without being completely bereft of things like warm food unless willing to forage in the world and to pay many many dollars in order to get it.)
All of the food in the fridge will need to be tossed. I may not have power again until the weekend. Except they're going to try really hard to give lots of people power back by tomorrow or Wednesday. So here is your charge: send good electricity vibes out into the universe for me, people. Otherwise I'll have to continue a) eating out for every meal, b) straining my eyes to read with a combination of candlelight and flashlight, and c) whining almost constantly.
More when I have power again.... unless I blog from campus (which is what I'm doing now, as I had to come here to get my cell phone charged so I could use it as an alarm clock in the morning so that I can teach my classes.)

I once lived somewhere we had hurricanes, and we were without power for 5 days. Luckily, we had a gas grill that we used to cook, make coffee, and feed ourselves. The cold showers, however, were a real drag.
Good luck! Hopefully you will have power restored soon!
Oh no! Are you, like, in the middle of a hurricane? I didn't know you were in hurricane country?
I'm just so used to earthquakes and mudslides ... if your power stays out, you know its a really serious problem out there.
Good luck! The problem is that our lives are set up around electricity, so when we don't have it, it's really clumsy. If we lived without it all the time, we'd live slower lives, but we'd manage. It's trying to live the electrified life wihtout it that's the real problem.
Usually the gym on campus is a good place to get a hot shower: where I was, they always got the power to campus first!
Nasty! I recall those lovely, hot, humid, un-electrified days of hurricanes. Not fit for man nor beast. Electric vibes going your way.
Ooo, a whole week without power: ugh. When I was in grad school, we lost power for a week due to an ice storm. I moved back to my parents; they didn't have power, either, but they had a fireplace, a well, and a camp stove. Know anyone that antiquated?
You definitely have my sympathy. You know, you might feel better if you toasted a marshmallow or two over that candle. Seriously!
Oh no! You have my sympathy, too. My power flickered briefly yesterday and I panicked, realizing that the battery in my laptop no longer even works... Luckily, no outage here. Just 3 days of record rainfall. Hope your returns soon....
I especially love the front doors whose locks operate by electricity, so that you can't enter your work place during a power outage. Also, where I live everyone pays everything by card, so a good power outage would make most purchases impossible, and I can easily imagine the panic that would follow... Needing electricity to be happy is one thing, but the way we depend on it for everything isn't necessarily the true path to happiness, I suspect. Crossing my fingers for you all!
Is yours back on yet? We were VERY lucky to get ours back Monday at noon. My campus is still running on generators, but we are back in session today. My daughter is still home and thousands of people in Small College Town (you know where, right?) are STILL out, too. Are you guys in session today?
Oh yeah- at least isn't hot & humid any more!! Hang in there!
Thanks for the good vibes, everybody! No power back yet (boo!) but at least the sun is out today, which means that I can be in my house during daylight hours and actually accomplish some things (like tossing the contents of the fridge, which are going to start becoming very stinky if I don't get on that). So keep the good power vibes coming my way, and I will keep you posted with any developments!
(Oh, and I'm not AT ALL in hurricane country by normal definitions. My life just sucks. Though can I say that if this were a wintertime situation, I'd have packed my bags and the kittens and hightailed it to my mom's house for the duration. Because dude: no light is one thing, but no heat is entirely another. Part of the problem with this is that there's no real justification to go hole up someplace because ultimately it's just an inconvenience. If the whole town were shut down or something, then I could have just left. Tragically, many things are up and running, including my job. Sigh.
Eep! I'm glad to hear at least you get some sunshine today.
Truth be told though, my very favorite modern convenience is indoor plumbing, followed closely by potable water. Indoor plumbing is really make or break for me.
Take good care!
