One of my former students just came by, and I'm the one with tears in my eyes and not the other way around. Tears of being touched and happy, though, not the tears of anxiety that students usually have.
It was a student of mine from last semester, and she stopped by because she wanted me to know that she learned more in my class than in any other class at this university. She actually thanked me for the class. If I remember correctly, she's a senior.

:) That's wonderful. Bookmark this post so you can come back when you're having a rough day.
Awwww! It's these few-and-far-between moments that make teaching worthwhile. :)
Luvverly. Slightly more touching, but probably no more authentic, than the profoundly drunk young student who approached me in a pub, to slur "I only passed my qualz cuz've you...cheers."
I love those feel good teacher moments! Cheers to you
Good for you! I'm glad she came by to tell you! :)
Awww.
Thanks, guys. Yeah, the whole exchange made me pretty emotional. Especially because the course this student had taken with me was the survey - a plain old requirement-filling sophomore-level course that students usually loathe.
Oh, and I also found out yesterday that my Best Student Ever, whom I wrote a ton of recommendations for, got into one of her top grad schools and was awarded an assistantship :) Yesterday was a very good day for me as a teacher. It's important to mention that stuff so that I don't scare all of the grad students who read me to death entirely.
Oh, that's so nice. Man, if only we could have moments like that a little more often.
