Packing (Just Skip This. Seriously. I Know It's Boring.)

So I've packed one box so far today. A box full of bathroom stuff. Blah. I figure I'll pack another box of bathroom stuff and then I'll be done with everything I can pack in the bathroom. While I did manage to get my bedroom closet totally emptied out yesterday, I do still have more bedroom packing to do. I lack enthusiasm. Sigh.

I feel like the unpacking will be easier and less irritating than the packing, but I think that's a lie I'm telling myself in order to motivate me to pack.

Ok, guess I should go pack another box. Then maybe I'll take a nap (even though that would not be a wise decision).

Packing sucks, but unpacking is kinda cool, because you get to decide where are your stuff will go in the new home! Packing is a terrible job, and one you shouldn't have to do alone. Where are your buds? Call and put those people to work!! Everything is more fun with alcohol, pizza, and friends...

Packing is a nuisance, but it's exciting to read about it and share your excitement about the new house.

Keep your eyes on the prize, Crazy! Oh, and don't forget: once you make that big move, and have your stuff physically present in the house, it's up to your personal comfort level how much to unpack at once.

I am, by the way, expecting at least one photo showing lots and lots of boxes and bags sitting in their new home. Cats optional.

Lesboprof - I've got friends in the wings who are totally on board with helping move small stuff, etc. The issue with the packing is that I'm also weeding out TONS of stuff, and others can't really help with that. That said, I packed up 90% of the bathroom today, and tomorrow I'll finish with it (other than essentials) And also with the bedroom and hopefully (crossing fingers) with the study. That will then only leave the kitchen and odds and ends in the living room/dining room and anything that is straggling around. It SHALL get done. It shall!

Unpacking is your second opportunity to discard things.

The last stuff you pack is, of course, the first stuff you will need to unpack. The first stuff you pack might be the stuff that can stay in a box for a month ... or longer.

Whatever you do, don't end up with stuff that is still in the same box when you move the next time!

Speaking of moving, any tips on getting boxes? Did you just buy them, or are there still places that will give you free boxes? I've called the local bookstores, and they seem less willing to hand these over than the last time I moved (10 years ago).

Packing is taking me *forever*! I was thinking I'd do it a little each day for the next few weeks and that it would just get done, but the cleaning/discarding process is really, really time consuming.

Helenesch - Well, I actually had a lot of boxes saved up - both from when I moved into this place and just that I collected when they seemed like "good moving boxes." Otherwise? I just bought boxes. It was less of a hassle than going around asking for them, and this way I have uniform sizes of boxes, which I like. And I splurged on the dish-pack fancy boxes so I don't need to wrap plates and glasses! Huzzah!
