You Know That You're at Your Wit's End When....

  • Everyone, including students, keeps asking if you're ok.
  • You lose your senses and freak out in a department meeting.
  • You've been spending the past 20 minutes deliberating about whether or not it would be a good idea to drink a bottle of wine.
  • You have two sets of tests and a few straggling papers to grade, in addition to a book manuscript to finish.
  • You've been on the verge of tears more than once today.
  • You are annoyed with the precious Man-Kitty who won't just leave you alone for god's sake, even though you know you've been gone all day and he misses you.
  • You actually uttered the phrase "God Almighty" in exasperation in your office today, totally unironically.
  • You know that you should eat dinner, but you keep thinking that a bottle of wine could actually serve as dinner.
  • You hate everything. And everyone.
  • You're considering picking a fight with your Fake Boyfriend, or really anybody, just because you want to yell at somebody.

I suppose this, too, shall pass, but damn. I am in one bitchy mood today. I'm totally stressed out, and I'm sick of all of the shit that I have to do. Sick and motherfucking tired.

Oh man, I've been there. I'm a little there right now, and Bullock's on the edge of there at the moment.

I understand.

I, too, have somewhat hated today.

If it helps, we think you're fucking awesome. Wishing you better times soon.

So sorry! I hope life works itself out soon. And, I highly suggest wine with the dinner.

I am so with you. It SUCKS. And I must say that I, too, have been seriously contemplating quantities of wine tonight...

Hope it passes soon!

A whole bottle?

Yeah, but seriously, I know where you're coming from, and I've had some murderous moments this week. It will pass, it will, and in the meantime, it's perfectly okay to be a less than nice person for a while. Do what you need to do and remember that the weekend is almost here.

(--During which you will finish the book revisions, so that then you will BE A PERSON WHO FINISHED A BOOK, and that's fucking awesome. So go you; you rock.)

Dude, did you read my post today? Maybe it's something in the lunar cycle or something, but my day has been exactly like yours, it appears.

Here's to a new and better day tomorrow, and to wine, which makes all the pain go away :)

For me that day was Tuesday. Hang in there -- and be good to yourself. Maybe some TV or a bath with the wine? and some carbs?

You just saved me 20 minutes. Thanks for writing this for me.

And as long as you don't do anything too stupid afterward, you should definitely open that bottle. Consider yourself drinking for two. :-)

Sorry you had a crappy day. I just wanted to say that I'm glad you're applying for that job in your home state. Fingers crossed!

You can yell at one of us to get it out of your system. After yelling at your comments and starting to take the edge off, it might make you laugh.

Alternately, snuggle with the Man-Kitty until he can't take it any more and leaves you alone.

Thank you all SOOOOO MUCH! I did decide to have a glass (or 3) of wine, I bitched at Medusa about all of the things that enrage me, and I watched the season premiere of Gray's Anatomy. All in all, I'm feeling much better. Oh, and I also did some reading from an ILL book that has totally solved a problem with the book, so things are looking up.

Aayor: I'm happy to drink on your behalf. Indeed, I'm not only drinking for 2 but for 2 1/2 - I'm sure the bun in the oven would love a cocktail as well :)

Maggiemay: I did read your post, and yes, I do think that the lunar cycle may be involved.

Karet: My fingers are super-crossed for job in Homestate - it's my favoritest one of all :) That said, if I end up exactly where I am at this time next year, that's actually cool, too. You know, that's one thing that's NOT stressing me out - the whole going on the market thing. As opposed to last year when I thought my whole world depended on it, it's awfully nice this year to feel like I'm cool whatever happens. If I were stressed about the market on TOP of all the other things? Yeah, I think I'd be up on a clock tower somewhere polishing a rifle and hoping for targets.

But so again, thanks for the good wishes and the commiseration. You know, one of the best things about this here little corner of the blogging world is the support. I don't acknowledge that as often as I appreciate it :)

Been there too... recently. It will get better, I promise.

Give man-kitty some nip and take a nip or two yourself. It will look better in the morning.

I have had a glass of wine for dinner before and was fine, but a whole bottle demands pizza delivery or, at least, cereal...
