Ooh! Very Exciting!

So I just received a phone call, and my household was selected to be a Neilsen Rating household! Huzzah! I have always wanted to be part of the television ratings! This is very exciting indeed! Apparently there is not a box that will get affixed to my television (where did I get the idea that this was how it worked?) but rather I will fill something out for a mini-sweeps week in the new year. And they will give me $30 for doing so! Just for saying what should be watched on television! Which I have always wanted to do! Crazy's voice matters! She is in a needed demographic for her viewing area! Huzzah!

(And yes, I realize that it is ridiculous how excited about this I am, but really, it's the simple pleasures in life.)

In other news, I've been wanting to post but I'm just too lame to write something worth reading. It's really a shame, because I'm in the mood to post. Ah well. I suspect that things will pick up once the semester is done and once the holidays are over.

Woo hoo! I would be excited, too. I'd be excited even if I wasn't paid. Happy tv watching!

OMG, you are all powerful! (Well, perhaps you were before, but now you are fer real!)

Can you be the person who saves all the really cool shows that always get cancelled?

oooo! This is way exciting! I am a Gallup Poll person (maybe you've heard of this?), and I feel special for that, but Neilsen would be better. I don't get paid for the Gallup polls. Also, I would like to be paid to watch TV!

I hope the writers' strike ends soon and that you will get to be a Neilsen viewer for a long time! I was pre-screened for Neilsen once, but I was rejected for not meeting their demographic need at the time.

I always thought it was a box too...huh. Anyway, if you want my advice, Chuck and Pushing Daisies are the two best new shows on TV.

Having visited the Neilsen website, it is apparent that only in major areas does technology come into it. If one is in a non-major viewing area, they rock it out with the TV diaries (and my comments, should I make them, will be forwarded to the networks! Huzzah!)

This is the second request I've gotten for Chuck, and I have heard some good things about the Pushing Daisies. That said, I do take this very seriously, and I feel it's important that I only recommend shows that I actually watch. So I shall try to catch those that people mention to me between now and my Neilsen Rating week, but otherwise, I suspect I'll be noting that I watch House and America's Next Top Model and The Ghost Whisperer and Moonlight :)

Nice! I was a "Nielsen family" in November, but they didn't give me $30. I did fill out the little diary, though it made me feel guilty for not watching more television.

They were very nice about calling to be sure that everything got there and was returned, though. If Nielsen ran customer service departments everywhere, we'd all be better off.

We were an Arbitron (radio) family last week. I had been vaguely excited by it, but now I just hate the company.

On the one hand, it was pretty easy to fill out the diary, b/c no one in our house listens to the radio.

On the other hand, it was only $6, not $30, and they called us a terrifying number of times--around 25-30 times in a 10-day period. They even called before 8am and after 9.30pm, which, since we have a young kid, was pretty noxious.

Yes, I've been a Nielson person. The hardest thing is when you plop in front of the box to unwind, and end up channel surfing. You're supposed to note everything you watch....

My friends say "Friday Night Lights" is well worth it as well as the other shows mentioned above. Me? I'd just be cursing the lack of ways I could demonstrate my love of "Battlestar Galactica".

My parents were a Neilsen family for several years. They had a box. Actually, they had something in all their tvs, vcrs, and cable box thingy so Neilsen automatically knew what was going on. If one of them accidentally came unplugged or something, Neilsen would know and call to find out why. I think my parents got like, $5 a month for it.
